Tito Ortiz is, indeed, back. Going into his fight with Ryan Bader last month everyone expected the Huntington Beach Bad Boy to be resoundingly beaten and cut from the UFC, but Mr. Ortiz had other ideas. After his stunning upset of Bader, Tito was called in on short notice to face Rashad Evans in what was, before Phil Davis withdrew, a #1 contender fight, with the winner getting the victor of Jones/Rampage. But with Tito’s imposition on the main event, does it somewhat decrease the legitimacy of Evans’ contendership? And, if Tito were to win, should he get a shot at dethroning Jon Jones? After July 19th, Affliction has set the bar incredibly high, maybe even too high for their own good. Yesterday, Affliction Day of Reckoning was announced, officially. While there are conflicting reports about fighters being asked to take pay cuts, it seems like that isn’t the case with this upcoming card (so far) due to the (relative to the last show) lack of name fighters. The show is being headlined by Josh Barnett vs. Andrei Arlovski, after Affliction had been hyping up Fedor Emelianenko vs. Andrei Arlovski for the WAMMA title. Read the rest of this entry »

It seems that father issues drive many of today’s most popular fighters. Chuck Liddell didn’t have a father; his left him to be raised by his mom and grandfather. Matt Hughes and his brother Mark hated their dad so much that they once gave him a beating for having the temerity to tell Mark he had no business riding a motorcycle with no training or license. Tito Ortiz had it worst of all.
In his new book This is Gonna Hurt, Ortiz details a childhood that is startling and more than a little sad.
