At last: the Kimbo-Hogan project the world was waiting for! Maybe Hogan will use Kimbo to scare his wayward son back onto the straight and narrow?
LOS ANGELES, Jul 30, 2008 (BUSINESS WIRE) —-Stereo Vision Entertainment, Inc. (OTCBB: SVSN), a film production company focused exclusively on developing high quality, low cost, polarized 3D feature films, announced today that the undefeated Mixed Martial Arts phenomenon, Kimbo Slice, will be co-starring with Hulk Hogan in Stereo Vision’s hilarious kids’ comedy “Kung Fu U” in 3D.
“Kung Fu U” in 3D is a Disney-type comedy about of a bunch of nerds and misfits that are sent away by their wealthy parents to the Brentwood Academy (a.k.a. Kung Fu U) to learn the finer arts of self-defense. It’s a heart-warming romp where the rather weathered warriors come to the rescue for the kids, and in turn, the kids rescue the warriors’ seemingly lost souls from what had been their eternal apathy. It’s a feel-good story that reminds us that we’re all the same, no matter what our age, or where we came from, and that we should all stick together.

Tomorrow night, Kimbo Slice will enter the cage for Elite XC in a moment that is quite possibly the most important in the history of the sport. Naturally, this sort of event brings out all the MMA bloggers/pretend journalists from the woodwork and has brought an insane amount of talk about what a show that hasn’t yet happened will do for the long term health of the sport. What’s not been discussed by virtually anyone is what a severe departure tomorrow night’s show is from every other MMA show previously televised.

It is somewhat reluctantly that I turn away from my download of the most recent Shooto show — which, about halfway through, anyway, is awesome — having just remembered my TUF commitments here at Total MMA. A man has only so many hours in a day to devote to this kind of thing, and so difficult decisions sometimes need be made. I am not complaining; I have more time for such things than can reasonably be expected. But know that while I speak to you now of TUF, my heart belongs to Shooto. I guess that’s always true to some extent.
Last week, as I’m sure you’ll recall, Dante Rivera took a close and controversial decision win over Brandon Sene in a match which asked of its judges (and of the viewing audience as a whole, of course), what’s more important in a mixed martial arts contest: modest but ultimately pointless positional control, or pretty much completely negligible damage from a somewhat disadvantageous position? Pointless positional control won the day! The fight itself wasn’t much, really, as Dana White observed, but at least it made you think, and that’s really more than you can ask of a show that begins with this kind of theme music. And it goes BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM.
Oh right! Also last week, Jeremy May lime-juiced Matt Brown’s dip! Grudge match! Citrus tobacco grudge match! This should be great. This is the best season in forever. Who needs Shooto?

Unless you’ve been living under a rock somewhere, I presume you’ve heard about the deal between the CBS television network and MMA wannabe player ProElite, parent company of EliteXC. The announcement has garnered a fair amount of response amongst the MMA congnoscenti, ranging from the moderately positive to the outraged. On the one hand, you have those who see an enlarged market for the sport of mixed martial arts, with all of the opportunities that brings. On the other, you have those who see Kimbo Slice, face of MMA, and are (justifiably) terrified.

EXC wants to be taken seriously, they want to be viewed as an equal to the UFC. A part of being taken seriously is that you have to appear to be serious. Being a rather big promotion like EXC is I am sure that somewhere along the line the memo that stated this fact was lost. Should EXC be taken seriously, or are they nothing more than a freak show promotion? I believe they should be taken seriously, but a quick poll of MMA fans will show myself to be in the minority on this issue. There are a few minor ways that EXC can change this stigma and make it so that they are a promotion that the MMA world feels should be taken seriously.
