There has been much speculation, and rumors have been thrown around quite a bit now. But it’s confirmed now: Nick Diaz vs GSP will face off in a superfight this October at UFC 137.

The first part of this article gives away everything, and there is not much to say about this fight other than how excited I am for it (as I’m sure everyone is). But this fight gives hope for more superfights in the future. Diaz is the first SF fighter to cross over into the UFC and unify the titles. So what does this mean for the future?

First off, Strikeforce being phased out is still uncertain. Dana White has stated that he would keep Strikeforce around as long as he could. Strikeforce is still a recognizable name and is still profitable. If all the big name fighters were to migrate to the UFC, there may not be much reason to keep it around, but who knows what the plans are for SF’s future?

Also, this fight translates to more superfights in the future. Melendez vs Edgar/Maynard(/Pettis?). Overeem vs Cain (or JDS/Carwin). Hendo vs Jones. And other big name SF fighters could migrate over and put on some exciting fights in the UFC. Leave some of your dream matchups between SF and UFC in the comments, I’m interested to hear some great matchups.

And finally, after a long layoff from Strikeforce cards, Overeem vs Werdum is coming up, so check back for more information leading up to the fights! Amanda Nunes announced this morning that she had to pull out due to injury, let’s hope there are no other injuries that prevent these awesome fights from happening.
