Kimbo Slice became famous for beating up street thugs on YouTube, but is he really worthy of a spot in the UFC – the biggest Mixed Martial Arts promotion in the world?

The public eye has been on Slice ever since he left the underground fighting scene to pursue a career in MMA – and there are plenty of doubters and haters that want him to fall flat on his face, presumably for having the ambition and courage to step up and leave behind the world of unsanctioned street fights.

But I feel he has the edge, both in continuing his meteoric rise in general, and in particular for this upcoming bout this Saturday against the former NFL player Matt Mitrione.

No More Talk For Koscheck & Daley

Josh Koscheck and Paul ‘Semtex’ Daley have talked enough trash to fill a dumpster the size of the Bell Centre in Montreal, the venue for their fight at UFC 113 this Saturday.

With speculation mounting that the winner of this fight will oppose Georges St.Pierre as a coach on the next series of The Ultimate Fighter, both Koscheck and Daley have proven they would provide great entertainment on the show with their brash, loud-mouthed nature.

But, as the Chinese proverb says, talk doesn’t cook rice. Neither does it prove you worthy to fight GSP for the UFC Welterweight Championship. The only place they can do that, is in the Octagon.

Book Review: Why I Fight by BJ Penn

Why I Fight

In the opening pages of his autobiography entitled Why I Fight (released last month by William Morrow/Harper Collins), BJ Penn spends a moment to describe his parents’ background. According to Penn, his father “had a very difficult childhood…I’ve always known it best not to dig for answers.” It’s sadly representative of the book that, with some very noteworthy exceptions, ends up mostly skimming the surface of the champion’s life and legendary career.
