No More Heroes: Chris Leben Takes Drugs

Well, part of being a fan of MMA and following the careers of certain fighters, or even entire organizations is the understanding that you are going to be continually let down. In recent memory, some of the biggest let downs have been a sober, getting his life back together Evan Tanner going out into the desert without ample supplies and dying alone, baking under a 115 degree sun. It has made the rounds today that Chris Leben has tested positive for steroids. The reaction is that he has been suspended for 9 months and 1/3 of his purse has been witheld from him.
While not surprising in any way (a fighter, on drugs!), it is disappointing. Leben is a guy that has always talked about how he is a “New Chris Leben” and training harder than he ever has before, having his life in order and so on. Granted, Leben’s biggest problem area has always been alcohol, but regardless, testing positive for Stanozolol is not a step any fighter wants to make in their career.
Leben said, “I’ve really done everything I can to turn my life around, and this is a huge setback for me, but it is something I will have to deal with. During my time off from fighting, I want to speak to kids about the dangers of using performance enhancing agents and let them know it just doesn’t get you ahead in life. Of course this is a hard hit for me monetarily, but more so this is embarrassing for me and for all of my fans. I apologize to the UFC and everyone who supported me in my fight in England. I hope to work through this and get back to fighting soon.”
Drunk driving, steroid abuse, I don’t know if I see any sort of new and improved Chris Leben.

I should go into a full-time steroid cycle advising business. Dudes are hella stupid when left to their own devices.

I completely agree with you. If dudes are going to roid up, at least be smart about it. You have to figure most guys are on something and just know what to do.

Kind of doesn’t really surprise me. It’s a let-down, but not an epic one, like Tanner dying the way he did. That one has a lot of people still all fucked up, myself included.

Yeah, it really isn’t surprising at all. I mean, the title of this alone kind of shows not only the disgust but how not surprising it is.
Tanner will always be one of those sucky situations, but what is worse is that there are dudes like Leben who seem bound to repeat it.

yeah chris made a dumb move but he will learn from this and he will not end up like the late great tanner rip
