Affliction: The Ozzman Cometh
Posted by Dave Walsh on August 21st, 2008

Affliction today announced that their next show on Oct. 11 will feature yet another metal performance. This time? Aging Godfather of Metal Ozzy Osbourne and his band will take the stage. The last Affliction picked up some reasonable flack from the Zuffa supporters for taking away from the “pure sport” atmosphere including Megadeth to their line-up. That aside, Megadeth played a great 3-song set and complimented the show perfectly, helping bring forward the style of show Affliction wants to present.
While there will most likely still be complaints about the aging rocker who mumbles his way through sets and douses himself in buckets of water to hide his onstage, humiliating urination of his pants, performing at this show, Ozzy is a big name. Ozzy, as one of Affliction’s sponsored bands (the others I know of are Megadeth and KoRn), was most likely an easy choice for this show. Megadeth were a name band, but not a big name band. Most people know the name Megadeth in association with Dave Mustaine being kicked out of Metallica and forming a band to mimmick and surpass the thrash metal juggernaut (which they never did, popularity-wise), but Ozzy is known for many, many things. Not only is Ozzy known as one of the founders of Black Sabbath, who are recognized as one of the first ‘metal’ bands, but he is also known for his recent VH1 hit reality show.
Like it or not, Ozzy is a household name in 2008, not only for metal fans, but for nearly everybody.
“Every performance needs a little blood,” said Ozzy Osbourne. “I look forward to seeing the fighters get roughed up a bit. Performing in Las Vegas is always a good time.”
The card so far as follows:
Matt Lindland in Action
Vladimir Matyushenko vs. Antonio Rogerio Nogueira
Mike “Quicksand” Pyle vs. Jason High
Roy “Big Country” Nelson vs. Paul “The Headhunter” Buentello
Andrei Arlovski vs. Josh Barnett
