UFC and SPIKE deny opposition programming

According to Dave Meltzer at the new Wrestling Observer website, the UFC is vehemently denying that they intend to run a show against Affliction’s PPV debut this July. Perhaps they floated the idea to see how the internet would respond. And boy did the internet respond.

If there was a shred of legitimacy to this (and who reported it again?), then I take this as Wanderlei Silva said “no” to fighting on no notice against a guy like Vera.

It was originally reported by Sherdog and then they all swarmed.

Oh, who knows then. Maybe BIG DAVE can ask some pertinent questions whenever he gets a chance.

Since the only other board I frequent, other than here, is that other fucking site, I have to say I had a good laugh at seeing all of the righteous indignation over the fact that the UFC would stoop so low, all the while taking Sherdog’s word as gospel. I’d imagine other places and people reacted the same, or probably even more ridiculously.

Apparently it was just an idea floated, but SPIKE never agreed to air the show. And Silva turned the fight down. So….

Sherdog did report it almost factually and they have a reputation (in the past two years or so anyway) as a respectable news source, so I don’t blame people for reacting.
Maybe this is just a sign that Josh Gross’ exit from that site has led to a drop in journalistic values?
