“Last Minute Surprises”
Posted by Tommy Hackett on March 16th, 2008

It’s good to see that despite some disappointing recent performances, the Pacific Northwest is staying ahead of the game. While some other states are still struggling to legalize the sport, the good people of Oregon may just elect one of their MMA heroes to public office:
A Oregon TV station offers:
“And, as is traditional on the filing deadline day, there were a few last-minute surprises. Republican House hopefuls will include an ultimate fighting champion, middleweight Matt Lindland of Eagle Creek, who is running for the seat vacated by retiring Rep. Patti Smith, R-Corbett.”
I have no idea how to respond to this. Lindland was also interviewed in a Washington Post piece entitled A New Grip On Talent last week. The long and short of it is that MMA has been a big shot in the arm for wrestling. Don’t be surprised if you don’t see Lindland making the rounds looking for new talent (and maybe some votes?) at this year’s NCAA Wrestling Championships…
That’s if you can find the time. I can barely even keep track of this sport anymore. Case in point: there’s two live MMA events being streamed tonight:
Costa Rica Fights is broadcasting a four man torunament with a four fight undercard at 9pm PST. I don’t know anything about the promotion but chances are this will be better than Rio Heroes.
Pro Elite is broadcasting tonight’s ICON show, featuring Phil Baroni vs Kala Kalohe, an and undercard featuring Jeremy Williams, Tyson Nam, Ross Ebanez, and more, is on at 8 pm PST.
Plug: last week’s Felicia Oh article received a nice response so I’m working on following up with an interview segment next week. Thanks for reading.
